Abstract

In June 2020, Central Java experienced inflation of 0.20 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.74. Of the 6 CPI cities in Central Java, all cities experienced inflation. The CPI city that experienced the highest inflation was Tegal City, which was 0.42 percent with a CPI of 105.16; followed by Purwokerto City at 0.40 percent with a CPI of 104.42; Surakarta City at 0.29 percent with a CPI of 103.82; Cilacap City at 0.28 percent with a CPI of 103.67; Semarang City at 0.16 percent with a CPI of 105.13; and the lowest inflation occurred in Kudus City at 0.09 percent with a CPI of 103.92. Inflation occurred due to price increases indicated by an increase in most expenditure group indices, namely: food, beverages, and tobacco group by 0.59 percent followed by household equipment, tools and routine maintenance group by 0.26 percent; health group by 0.23 percent; food and beverage/restaurant provision group by 0.22 percent; transportation group by 0.13 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.12 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0.11 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 0.04 percent; education group by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the index decreased in the personal care and other services group by 0.24 percent and the information, communication and financial services group by 0.01 percent. The main cause of inflation in Central Java in June 2020 was the increase in the price of broiler chicken, broiler chicken eggs, intercity transportation, catfish and powdered/liquid detergent soap. The main inflation restraints in Central Java are the decline in the prices of garlic, granulated sugar, air transportation, gold jewelry and red chilies. The calendar year inflation rate in June 2020 was 0.82 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (June 2020 to June 2019) was 2.48 percent.
