Abstract

The word gender can be interpreted as roles that are shaped by society and behavior that is embedded through the socialization process related to the female and male genders. Like race, ethnicity and class, gender is a social category that largely determines a person's life path and participation in society and the economy. The definition of gender equality refers to a condition of equality between men and women in fulfilling their rights and obligations. Gender equality will strengthen countries' ability to develop, reduce poverty, and govern effectively. Thus, promoting gender equality is a major part of the development strategy in order to empower people (all people) - women and men - to eradicate poverty and improve their standard of living. Economic development opens up many avenues for improving gender equality in the long term. The Sustainable Development Goals agenda has an important meaning because once adopted it will be used as a global and national reference so that the development agenda becomes more focused. One of the development plan targets contained in the 2005-2025 RPJM is to improve the quality of human resources, including the role of women in development. Gender mainstreaming is a strategy built to integrate gender into an integral dimension of planning, preparation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and national development programs. Apart from that, the SDGs also support fulfilling women's rights, realizing gender equality and justice and strengthening gender mainstreaming in development. To provide information related to gender equality, disaggregated data between women and men is needed which can describe gender gaps. This publication presents data on the conditions of women and men in the areas of population, health, education, employment and household socio-economic status. The data presented comes from the results of the March 2023 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas), the 2023 National Employment Survey (Sakernas) and population projections from the Population Census (SP2020). The data in this publication is presented at the district level. The infographic presented aims to be easily understood by various groups, both the general public and policy makers, so it is hoped that it can be used as a reference in assessing gender problems in Semarang Regency.
