Abstract

Semarang Regency is one of the regencies that became a buffer zone for the capital city of Central Java Province. This position makes its existence strategic to develop rapidly.Based on projection of the Sensus Penduduk 2020 results, the population of Semarang Regency in 2024 as much as 1,089,770 people, which is 1.19 percent increase from 1,076,930 people in 2023. According to the gender, as much as 50.23 percent of Semarang Regency’s populations are female resident. This relatively large population sue the local government to create adequate employment opportunities.In terms of employment, Unemployement Rate (UR) in Semarang Regency at 2023 reached 4.05 percent or decreased 0.76 points percentto 2022’s conditions which reach 4.81 percent. This means that for every 100 people workforce in Semarang Regency there are 4 unemployed people.The next indicator that is interesting to review is the poverty rate. In the 2019-2023 poverty rate of Semarang Regency is experiencing fluctuating progress. Along with improving economic performance after Covid-19 pandemic, the poverty rate of Semarang Regency decreased to 7.17 percent in 2023.In the middle of various global economic pressures, the prolonged El Nino phenomenon and declining prices of leading commodities, national economic conditions in 2023 generally slow down. This condition also occurs in Central Java and Semarang Regency. Semarang Regency’s economic growth in 2023 reach 4.74 percent.The main support of Semarang Regency economiy is the processing industry which contributes 38.75 percent, while the expenditure side is dominated by household Consumption expenditure components which reaches 59.49 percent.The beautiful natural conditions of Semarang Regency make tourists interested in visiting tourism objects in Semarang Regency. It shown by the average of Hotel Room Occupancy Rate (star and non-star) in 2023 which reach 17.23 percent per night.Agriculture Sector also had enough contribution to the economic. In 2023, production of paddy in Semarang Regency reach 143,194 Ton-GKG, 3.94 percent increase from 2022 which is 137,364 Ton-GKG.Another indicator that can be used to see the success rate of development on the quality of human life is Human Development Index (HDI). In 2023, HDI of Semarang Regency has 0.62 percent grew compared to 2022 being 75.13 and entered high category. HDI of Semarang Regency exceeds HDI of Jawa Tengah Province which reached 73.39 and ranked 12th among regency/municipality in Jawa Tengah.
