Abstract

  • In February 2020 in Central Java there was inflation of 0.44 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.44. Of the 6 CPI cities in Central Java, all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Purwokerto City at 0.58 percent with a CPI of 103.83 followed by Cilacap City at 0.49 percent with a CPI of 102.97; Semarang City at 0.43 percent with a CPI of 104.86; Surakarta City at 0.41 percent with a CPI of 103.75; Kudus City at 0.39 with a CPI of 103.77 and the lowest inflation in Tegal City at 0.38 percent with a CPI of 104.57.
  • Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices indicated by an increase in most expenditure group indices, namely: food, beverages, and tobacco groups by 1.53 percent; personal care and other services group by 0.44 percent; health group by 0.22 percent; food and beverage/restaurant provision group by 0.21 percent; recreation, sports and culture group by 0.18 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 0.05 percent; and education group by 0.04 percent. The groups experiencing deflation were the household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group, as well as the information, communication and financial services group by 0.05 percent each; transportation group by 0.03 percent; and clothing and footwear group by 0.02 percent.
  • The main cause of inflation in Central Java in February 2020 was the increase in the price of garlic, red chilies, air transportation, rice and broiler chicken. The main restraint of inflation in Central Java was the decline in the price of gasoline, cayenne pepper, squid, fresh shrimp and broccoli.
  • The calendar year inflation rate for February 2020 was 0.53 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (February 2020 compared to February 2019) was 3.55 percent.
